Blue Cove Ventures - 2009 Year in Review

Happy New Year to all our LP's, investees, partners, prospects, friends and families! 2009 was a challenging year for everyone but the tide has turned and optimism is high going into 2010. It is always useful to review the year just past and to set some goals for the year ahead.

  • In 2008 we reviewed over 150 new opportunities; in 2009 we looked at 192 opportunities bringing our reviewed pipeline total to over 475
  • The continuing improvement above is related to our strong referral network - Thanks to everyone who passed leads our way last year (please keep it up ;-)
  • In August we participated in a significant investment round in Windlab and welcomed Lend Lease Ventures onto the share register and leadership group
  • We saw the Government annouce the details of Commercialisation Australia - this will make a significant difference in the innovation space in this country - I expect to see a lot more opportunities emerge in 2010 as a result
  • We saw the inaugral Tech23 event take place in Sydney. Run by the fabulous team @ SlatteryIT the event attracted over 375 attendees. I'm already looking forward to this years event
  • The Angel Investor community continued to gain strong momentum throughout the year. The 2010 AAAI Annual Conference is taking place from Feb 17-19 in Adelaide - I encourage you to attend!
  • I've been doing some 'Investor Ready' Workshops for Innovate SA - its been great to interact with a range of dedicated entrepreneurs and to assist them in getting ready of institutional investment - two more workshops are scheduled for this year
  • I expect to be acting again as a mentor on the InnovationACT programme which starts again in April - in 2009 we had nearly 30 teams enter with over $50k of prize money up for grabs.
  • Great progress has been made by both Windlab Systems and Simmersion this year. Thanks to all the dedicated team members for all their efforts in 2009 - I have a feeling 2010 is going to be a big year for both companies - Good luck!
  • We participated in the first Start-up Camp Canberra in September - Thanks to all the efforts of the team @ Lighthouse Innovation Centre the event was a great success - here's to another successful event in 2010
  • We attended all of the Capital Angels and Sydney Angels dinner meetings throughout the year and see another big year for both these organisations in 2010

We have big plans for 2010 - thanks for your interest in the progress of Blue Cove Ventures and drop by for more news! Happy New Year!
